Asynchronous Video Chat
Both parties (the practice and the pet owner) can upload live or recorded videos to the chat thread in the app platform. This is very much like texting a video clip to a friend.

This can be used in a number of situations, and provides benefits for both the veterinarian and the pet owner.
Benefits for the veterinarian:
- Does not tie them down to a specific appointment time
- Does not require them to wait for the pet owner to be able to show the pet's problem during a live video call, especially when it may not be happening at that moment (similar to when you take your car to the mechanic, and it suddenly stops making the weird noise)
- Able to stop, freeze, and zoom in on video or photo frames, rather than trying to see the problem in a flash during live video streaming
- Does not require both parties to have high bandwidth for synchronization of streaming
Benefits for the pet owner:
- Allows them to capture the perfect video or photo example of their pet's problem
- Does not require them to be with their pet to capture the video at a specific appointment time
- Since the video is stored in the 2-Way Chat conversation, it can be referred to in the future
Frequently asked questions
Is there a size limit for uploaded videos? Videos can be a maximum of 200mb, which is approximately 30 minutes long. (File sizes vary based on recording resolution.)
How long does it take to download a video? Because we are using the app to transfer the video files via Amazon Web Services, the file upload and download time is minimal—it is much faster than texting.
Will the video be accessible later? The video will be stored in the chat history in the Practice Dashboard for the veterinary team and in the app for the pet owner to be referenced at anytime. Additionally the chat transcript PDF will include access to the video anytime.
Can the video be automatically uploaded into my practice management software? When a chat conversation ends, the practice can download or email a PDF summary. Vet2Pet will store the video files in the cloud, where they can be accessed anytime via the active link in the PDF. The PDF can be attached to the patient record in your practice management software. This will alleviate the issue of file storage on your practice’s server, as video files can be quite large.
What if I need real-time live video? Rarely, you may need real-time live video. For those occasions, we recommend using another service, like FaceTime or Zoom. If you commonly need live video, we recommend the Televet app service.
Can I charge my clients for asynchronous video chats? Yes, you can use the Vet2Pet Virtual Payment feature to charge clients for asynchronous video chats.
