How Push Notifications Work

Push Notifications are one-way messages sent to your clients through the app.

Each app user can choose how they want to experience notifications on their personal device. The most common notification setting is a banner notification on the device. This makes notifications a great communication tool because they are:

  • Easy to create
  • Instantly deployed
  • Stored in the app
  • Capable of including links, images, and attachments

Push Notifications are better than text messages because they:

  • Are branded with your app logo
  • Do not use your clients' mobile data
  • Can include unlimited characters

Push Notifications are ideal for:

  • Hospital updates
  • Promotions and special offers
  • Reminders and appointment confirmations
  • Hospitalized patient updates
  • Lost pet alerts
  • Weather closures
  • Outbreaks and food recalls

Push Notifications can be sent to:

  • Just one user
  • A group of users
  • Clients with pets of a particular species
  • Clients with pets of a particular breed
  • Clients with pets of a particular age group
  • Clients with a scheduled appointment on any specific day
  • Clients that have opted in to receive special offers
  • Clients that have not opted in to receive special offers
    How do notifications work?
  1. When a client downloads the app, they will be prompted to accept notifications. The notifications can be enabled or disabled in the settings of the app and the device.
  2. The notification will be displayed as a pop-up banner message, even when the device is not actively being used.
  3. Clicking on the notification will take the user to the message in the app.
  4. A number indicator will display on the app icon until the message is read.
  5. Notifications will be permanently stored in the Messages section of the app, so they can be referenced when needed.
